Montezuma
Montezuma Record Dec 7, 1894
Traveler's Rest with its half a dozen or more stores, Masonic and Odd Fellows Societies, school, churches, and manufacturing establishments? Knowl's Mill, the Cain family, the killing of Adams by Brumbelo, the Indian war excitement of 1836, the tribe of Uchee Indians that lived near where Montezuma now stands?
In 1836, David Jones, D.S. Harrison, J.A. Shine and their families were the only white citizens of the place. Jones came to Traveler's rest about 1830, Harrison and Shine in 1834. At that time the place was called Bristol. (After the death of John Shine, his wife married his Uncle David Shine of Twiggs Co.)
